Hear That Sucking Sound?

It's World of Warcraft pulling me in ... little ... by little ... by little ...

I could bore you for paragraphs on end with descriptions of Warcraft and the day-by-day account of my trial period. But, let's just make short work of it by saying ... I broke down and bought the game.

There are things in the game that have frustrated me, such as ...

a) Dying Is An Art - No, that's not a line in a Tarantino movie ... although it probably could be. In WoW, dying is a frustrating experience that really will cause you to question whether it's worth playing at all. If your character dies in a cave surrounded by monsters, he or she will resurrect ... oh yes ... in a cave surrounded by monsters. This makes it pretty likely that you'll be living in a kind of "Groundhog Day" hell that would make Bill Murray put a gun to his temple.

b) You Can Spot a Thirteen Year Old Boy From A Mile Away ... Even if He's a Level 70 Paladin - Last night I had my first run-in with two griefers who were, in my best guess, pre-teen boys whose parents bought them subscriptions to WoW in the hopes it would either keep them out of their hair ... or ... keep them living in their basements as geeked-out virgins forever. I'm pretty sure the latter will apply. How do I know they're pre-pubescent? No one over 13 would try to "hit on someone" by following them around chanting, "Oh yes, come to Daddy ..." over and over and over. Anyone know where I could get my hand on that WoW plague that came out awhile back?

c) Motion Sickness Is A Bitch - I've known for years that I can't play Doom or Quake or any of the 3D shooters because they give me a wicked case of motion sickness. I'm not sure why I thought WoW would be any different ... but let me assure you, it isn't. Dramamine's Non-Drowsy formula is nice ... so is Bonine's. Taking either will work ... taking nothing doesn't.

The really neat part of WoW is how complex it is. You can have a completely different game experience just by creating a character with a different race or different class. My first character was a gnome rogue ... my new character is a human warlock. Both started in totally unique places and are given different quests and abilities.

And how is my housework standing up to this new hobby? Well, I did manage to get the Christmas tree down last weekend. So ... you know ... I've got that going for me.

So give a little bit
Give a little bit of my life for you
So give a little bit
Give a little bit of your time to me
Now’s the time that we need to share
So send a smile, we’re on our way back home

Supertramp - Give A Little Bit

Do you still have your rogue gnome, or did you have to give that up with the trial?

  2. Yes ... I still have my little gnome ... oh, how I love her. She's so short and squat! LOL

I just wanted to see what a mage could do ... and wanted to see what kind of a human I could create. It's a little disappointing that you can't customize your character more ... even after buying the whole game. I want to be able to customize body type/size, etc. but you're kinda stuck with what they offer.

Last night I didn't play ... Apple was offering an upgrade to the iTouch software and I spent most of the evening fighting with iTunes to get my iPod to accept the update. You got five additional applications for $19.99 ... and ... as if you need to ask, YES, I was stupid and paid for it. Not that I'm complaining ... I'll probably blog about that today ... LOL

Anyhow ... I've been meaning to talk to you! When we got the game, it came with a coupon for ten extra days for a friend. I've got a code you can enter to get more time on your trial ... you want it?
