Nothing Gold Can Stay ...

Terri Schiavo
1963-2005

Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

Robert Frost (1875-1963)

Before life gets back to normal and I start writing about trivial things again ... I wanted to take a second to talk about these last few weeks. It's almost impossible not to be affected by what we've seen on the news. For all practical purposes, the nation was on a death watch for two weeks ... and you can see the emotional toll it's taken on a great many people.

For me, the worst part of this situation was that CNN, Fox, and the other news networks treated a family's private, tragic ordeal like the most horrific reality show in television history. I can't imagine the pain that Michael Schiavo and the entire Schindler family has endured ... and I pray that Michael, her family, and the nation as a whole can find peace now that Terri is with God.

There are places I’ll remember
All my life though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places have their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I’ve loved them all
