A Fairgoer Darkly ...

You know what's the best thing about the Illinois State Fair? The fact that the same vendors are there year after year ... in the same location ... so you're guaranteed to find your favorite funnel cake, lemonade shakeup, or elephant ear.

You know what's the worst thing about the Illinois State Fair? The fact that the same vendors are there year after year ... in the same location ... so that you see those same funnel cakes, lemonade shakeups, or elephant ears ... whether you like them or not.

Sure, every year there's one or two new items on the grounds ... for instance, this year you can try the Egg Council's newest creation ... Egg On A Stick. No, I'm not making that up ... trust me, I couldn't make something like that up if I tried.

But eggs aside, most of us could walk with our eyes closed to Culler's French Fries or Vose's Corn Dogs. For those people who make it out here once or twice, I'm sure that feels nostalgic and comforting.

For me, it's like living in the movie Groundhog's Day ...

In every little town across the USA
There's a spot where the people go 'most every day
So leave all your troubles & get away
Come on down & listen to the guitar play
